We are recruiting families for a longitudinal research project designed to investigate the ways in which autism and other conditions can affect language learning in young boys. This project will provide insights into the processes children use when learning new vocabulary words and how parents can best support their children’s language growth.

Since the project is longitudinal, participation will require two visits - 1½ years apart - to the Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Visits will involve standardized testing, as well as play-based assessments. The cost for eligible travel expenses, including meals, hotel, and airfare, will be covered by the project. At each visit, parents also will receive a book and research articles of their choice, plus an honorarium of $50.

This research is being conducted in collaboration with investigators at the MIND Institute, University of California at Davis, and is approved by the Social and Behavioral Sciences Institutional Review Board at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
