Online Journal Writing and Parenting Children with Socially Disruptive Behaviors

Journal Writing for Mothers of Children with Socially Disruptive Behaviors is a block randomized trial study concerned with the effectiveness of an online journal writing intervention for mothers who are parenting hard to parent children. The broad, long term objectives of this project are to contribute toward understanding the maternal stressors, mother-child relationship and journal writing intervention. I am interested in knowing how sharing your story through journal writing can support your ability to parent your child. I am also dedicated to understanding the different intervention techniques that moms find useful when parenting children with challenging behaviors related to a primary diagnosis such as autism, ADHD, et al.
This study will ask you to respond to short prompts designed specifically for more effective journal writing and write to those prompts for no more than 15 minutes. There will be 16 sessions, all conducted online, spanning no more than 8 weeks. To participate, you need to have access to the Internet and commit 15 minutes every other day to complete the writing tasks.
The Principal Investigator is an Occupational Therapist who works with families and children who have disorders of social relatedness such as autism, NLD, Asperger’s, ADHD, sensory processing disorders and other pediatric challenges.
Although the results of this study may be published, and your writing read by the researcher, no information that could identify you will be included. In fact, before the researcher reads what you write, your name and any identifying information will be removed and a number will be assigned to your journal entries. That number will be locked in a file cabinet and not made available to anyone who reads what you write.
