Parent Implemented Training for Autism through Telemedicine

Do you have a child with autism? Do you want to learn how to teach your child new skills?

Researchers from West Virginia University are looking for parents that
want to learn how to teach new skills to their children with autism. The
study will teach parents how to implement Discrete Trial/ABA training
through written instructions or video. There is no cost to participate in this
study. This study has been approved by the WVU Institutional Review Board
(IRB), which ensures that research studies are done in an ethical manner.

Parents may be eligible if they:

• Have a child between 18 and 48 months of age who meets the
diagnostic criteria for autism or is suspected of having autism
• Live in the Appalachian Region (West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio,
Maryland, Virginia, or Kentucky)
• Are willing to participate in a year-long research study
• Are willing to drive to Morgantown, WV or Big Chimney, WV twice during
course of study

Benefits:

• Families may benefit directly from this study by being trained in ABA
therapy and receiving individualized feedback.
• Parents will conduct ABA sessions in their homes and are only required
to travel for pre-training and post-training assessments.
• Parents will be given a video camera to videotape themselves working
with their children.
